Absentee Bidding: at the mercy of the Auctioneer

Aren't these wonderful? Almost 9" tall.
They sold last May for around $2200 in England.

It would appear some poor soul left a bid of 1200 pounds, but lost them; the dogs sold for 1220.
Can you imagine a 20 pound increment at that level?
