One of the most beautiful Victorian needlepoints I have ever seen, this Landseer dog was sold for more than $3000 at Christies in New York City in June 2009.
Obviously after Sir Edwin Landseer, who visited with the Royal Family for many summers during the 1850s and painted Victoria, her family and their animals, this dog is particularly famous for rescuing a child from drowning.
There are many Staffordshire figures called Rescue Dog and Child Saved, but the title of this similar painting was named, by the artist,
Distinguished Member of the Humane Society !
